Mobile Phone Signal Jammers Are Legally Allowed In Japan
In Japan, the government and military sectors account for a large portion of the market, driven by the need for security and control of communications in sensitive areas and during critical operations. Meanwhile, commercial use of cell phone signal jammers in public places such as cinemas, meeting rooms, etc. is a niche but growing area. mobile phone signal jammer equipment exceeds the weak level stipulated in the Radio Law and requires a license. The reason is that the strength of radio waves emitted by base stations such as mobile phones varies depending on the location, which allows cellophone signal jammer blocker equipment to suppress the communication function of mobile phones, etc. within a certain range, causing inconvenience to the public.
What requirements must be met to obtain a license?
1.When the communication deterrent effect is limited to a certain space and does not interfere with mobile phone communications outside the space.
- Relevant places include concert halls, theaters, entertainment halls, driver's license test centers, ATM counters, public athlete waiting rooms, etc.
2.By suppressing communication methods such as mobile phones.
- When it is necessary to prevent obstructive behavior of people entering the space.
- When it is necessary to prevent fraud in the space.
3.If users of mobile phones, etc. in the relevant space agree to prohibit communication.
- In addition, in this requirement, the setting location is not determined by the name of the facility, but by the entertainment purpose and content of the location where the radio station is set up.
- The licensee of the radio station may be the facility manager or owner, or someone authorized by them.
The penalties for interfering with important wireless communications without a license under Article 108-2 of the Radio Act are as follows:
Article 108-2 A person who uses radio equipment for company-operated radio stations for telecommunication services or broadcasting services, for the protection of human life or property, for the maintenance of public order, for meteorological services, for power supply services related to electric power business, or for trains related to railway business, or who touches a radio equipment with an object or otherwise impairs the function of a radio equipment and interferes with radio communications, shall be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison or 2.5 million yen.
