On the afternoon of October 27, 2024, the Delhi Police successfully seized a mobile network signal jammer during a security check during Diwali. The device was found in the famous Palika Bazaar market in Delhi, and the police are currently conducting further verification of the device. The move by the Delhi Police is aimed at strengthening security precautions during the festival and preventing possible criminal activities.
Security check before the festival
With the approach of Diwali, the Delhi Police has strengthened security checks on major commercial areas, hotels and public places in the city. Deputy Commissioner Devesh Kumar Mahla said that the police team conducted special inspections of various shops and public areas to ensure that there are no potential safety hazards. It was during this inspection that the police found the mobile network signal jammer in a shop in Palika Bazaar.
According to Mahara's description, the signal jammer device is similar in appearance to a common radio signal jammer, and the police immediately confiscated it and will conduct further verification and inspection. Mahara stressed that the police are following standard procedures to handle this case, and encouraged the public to report to the police immediately when they find suspicious items to ensure public safety.
What is a mobile network jammer?
Mobile network jammers, also known as phone signal jammers, usually block or interfere with the normal communication of other electronic devices by emitting powerful radio signals. It works by overloading the power of the receiver, causing the communication signal to be destroyed. Jammers usually affect mobile network signals, GPS signals, and Wi-Fi networks, causing communication interruptions or devices to be unable to connect normally.
In many cases, signal blockers are used illegally, especially in prisons, entertainment venues and other areas. The purpose is usually to block mobile phone signals to prevent prisoners or criminals from using mobile phones for illegal activities. In some cases, jammer devices are also used to attack competitors or prevent external communications in some sensitive locations. However, these devices are illegal in some areas because they may affect the legitimate communication needs of others in the surrounding environment.
Public safety and festival management
The move by the Delhi Police reflects its determination to ensure social safety and order before major festivals and public gatherings. Diwali, one of the most important festivals in India, usually brings a lot of shopping activities and public gatherings. Although festivals bring joy and reunion, they are often accompanied by criminal behavior and public safety issues. In order to prevent crime and ensure public safety, the police have stepped up patrols and inspections in urban areas before the festival.
In recent years, the abuse of mobile network signal blockers has become a growing problem in India. Especially in some high-risk areas such as markets, transportation hubs and government buildings, the illegal use of phone signal jammers has posed a potential threat to social order. By seizing these devices, the police have demonstrated their firm stance in maintaining social safety.
The police action also highlights the importance of cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies. Deputy Commissioner Devesh Kumar Mahara called on citizens to remain vigilant and reminded everyone to report any suspicious devices or behaviors to the police immediately. This not only helps the police deal with potential threats quickly, but also protects themselves and others at critical moments.
