The 2024 college entrance examination is about to start, and various places have upgraded anti-cheating equipment to deal with the phenomenon of candidates hiding their mobile phones in the soles of their shoes and other ways to cheat. Public reports show that various places have strengthened the application of smart security gates and mobile phone blockers to warn candidates to stay away from cheating in the examination room.
Many places strengthen smart security gates and cell phone jammers
According to the Liaoning Jinzhou Daily on June 5, the Jinzhou Municipal Admissions Committee has asked relevant departments to upgrade smart security gates to address the problem of mobile phone cheating, and add detection functions for illegal items such as mobile phone shielding bags, smart glasses, smart watches, smart bracelets, and ceramic headphones. At the same time, the city has added 110 5G signal blockers to ensure full coverage of 5G signal shielding in areas including toilets, corridors, washrooms, and foyers.
The security inspection measures in Xiangyang, Hubei have also changed, especially adding a small step, requiring candidates to lift their feet when passing the security gate. Li Haifeng, director of the education department of No. 36 Middle School, said that this foot-lifting action can prevent candidates from hiding their mobile phones in the soles of their shoes.
The "2024 College Entrance Examination Special Governance to Prevent Mobile Phone Cheating and Delayed Answering Candidates' Instructions" issued by the Wuhan Municipal Admissions and Examination Office mentioned that the city's college entrance examination will be held at the National Education Examination Standardized Examination Site, implementing the "manual security inspection + intelligent security inspection" mode. After the improvement and upgrade, the intelligent security inspection gate can identify mobile phones and smart glasses more accurately and react more sensitively. When passing through the intelligent security inspection gate, candidates need to cross the 20-centimeter-high isolation pier to ensure that prohibited items such as mobile phones hidden in the soles of shoes can also be detected.
The Hebei Provincial Education Examination Institute has also comprehensively optimized and upgraded the intelligent security inspection gates of all test sites in the province. According to the Great Wall Network, every candidate must pass through the intelligent security inspection gate, and a security inspection table is installed under the security inspection gate to expand the detection range. It can quickly and accurately detect electronic devices such as mobile phones, mobile phone shielding bags, and smart glasses, and identify the specific carrying parts.
Case of cheating by hiding a mobile phone
Previously, some candidates did hide their mobile phones in their shoes and bring them into the examination room to cheat. On August 25, 2021, a criminal judgment published by the China Judgment Documents Network revealed that in the 2020 college entrance examination in Anhui Province, candidate Zhu Moumou hid his mobile phone in his shoes and brought it into the examination room, took pictures of the examination papers and sent them to the "gunman", who then sent the answers to the candidates for copying. The court found Zhu Moumou guilty of organizing cheating in the examination and sentenced him to three years in prison and suspended his sentence for five years.
Legal and social impact of mobile phone jammers
In China, the use of mobile phone jammers in exams has gradually become the norm to prevent candidates from cheating through their mobile phones. However, the use of mobile phone jammers has also raised some legal and social issues. In some countries, such as the United States and Canada, it is illegal to use mobile phone jammers privately on the grounds that these devices may infringe on personal freedom and affect public safety.
Despite the controversy, the market demand for mobile phone jammers remains strong worldwide. These devices are used in many fields, from churches to banks. In Mexico, banks hope to prevent potential robbers from communicating with their accomplices by using jammers, while government departments plan to use jammers in prisons.
The problem of cheating in the college entrance examination has always been a difficult problem that needs to be solved in China's education system. With the advancement of technology, cheating methods have become increasingly complex. Measures to upgrade smart security equipment and mobile phone jammers in various places will help maintain the fairness and justice of the examination. However, how to protect the legitimate rights and interests of candidates while preventing cheating is still an issue that needs to be continuously explored and improved.
