Surprising arrest
On May 16, 2024, Ahmedabad police arrested a 48-year-old bootlegger, Bhavanisinh Solanki, in Nicol area. Solanki was driving a Nissan car equipped with a GPS tracking device and was found carrying 360 bottles of liquor worth Rs 2.69 lakh.
Jammer found
After searching the vehicle, the police found a charger-like device, which turned out to be a signal jammer. The device is capable of blocking GPS signals, making it difficult for the police to track the location of the vehicle. Police officer JH Sindhav said that the discovery was extremely shocking for the police as this was the first time such a high-tech device was found in the vehicle of a bootlegger.
Legal consequences
Solanki has been charged with violating the Gujarat Prohibition Act and has been detained by the police for a day. The arrests reveal a new trend among bootleggers to use high-tech tactics to evade legal sanctions, posing new challenges for police.
