In this era of high dependence on GPS and satellite navigation, especially when traveling in an RV, the idea of turning off the navigation system may sound a little crazy. However, my friend Jim gave me a good suggestion that turning off GPS may make the travel experience more colorful.
When Jim and his wife travel, they always choose to turn off the highway navigation in the last hour before the destination and take some less busy roads instead. They found that this practice brought a lot of fun, "We see a lot of interesting things before we get to the destination." After hearing him share this experience, Mike and I both agreed that this is indeed a great way to explore unknown roads.
Mike's sharing of using GPS and GPS signal jammers
In our RV, Mike and I installed two GPS units-one is the standard console GPS built into the 2017 Mercedes Sprinter, and the other is a Garmin Nuvi that we purchased separately. Although these devices provide us with convenience, their accuracy is not always guaranteed. Sometimes, the route they take us may not be the best choice.
We have discovered the charm of paper maps. In the past, we used to collect paper maps in each state and province we passed through, and now we hold the Rand McNally Highway Atlas, which records the roads in every state, Canada and Mexico. Nothing can make you feel where you are and what you are about to discover better than flipping through a map in person.
Paper maps not only help us understand our journey, but also provide fun and unexpected surprises. These maps often mark some interesting points of interest and trails, allowing us to stop at any time during the drive and explore the beautiful scenery that is not on the regular route.
However, while we enjoy revisiting paper maps, we also realize that in some cases, protecting our privacy and security is equally important. With the advancement of modern technology, tracking methods have become more sophisticated, and the risk of personal information being leaked is also increasing. When traveling, using a GPS signal jammer can help us prevent others from monitoring our whereabouts. This device can block GPS signals to ensure that our movements cannot be tracked, whether we are exploring remote areas or moving around in busy cities. By protecting our privacy, we can enjoy our travels with greater peace of mind.
So, as Jim says, turn off your GPS, explore off-the-beaten-paths, and enjoy the unexpected! On this journey of discovery, having a paper map in hand and using a GPS jammer will give you a richer, more authentic travel experience.
